Some people with depression need more than talk therapy or medications to find relief from depression.
Now, there is a new hope for people with persistent depression. Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is an FDA-cleared non-drug therapy for people with depression who have not benefited from previous treatments. Psychiatric & Counseling Associates is pleased to offer NeuroStar TMS which is the state-of-the-art TMS treatment.
NeuroStar TMS uses magnetic pulses to stimulate areas of the brain that are underactive in people with depression. NeuroStar TMS, by directly stimulating the underperforming part of the brain, restores the natural balance between thoughts and emotions. During the 4 to 6 weeks of TMS treatment, patients describe better motivation, energy, concentration, and self-control consistent with significant improvement or relief. Of course, like the many manifestations of depression, recovery from depression is individual and unique.
NeuroStar TMS must be prescribed by a doctor. It is reimbursed by many commercial health plans.
During a TMS treatment session, a magnet similar in strength to that used in a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine is used to stimulate nerve cells in the area of the brain thought to control mood. These magnetic pulses may have a positive effect on the brain’s neurotransmitter levels, making long-term remission possible.
Treatment with NeuroStar TMS Therapy is easy:
With more than one million treatments performed, this novel treatment approach to achieving remission is bringing new hope to people every day.
